Neridronate Treatment
Neridronate is a third-generation bisphosphonate and it is the only one that has been patented for the treatment of CRPS in Italy.
In Italy, doctors favor this medication because it has no long-term side effects and is safe even for newborns under 12 months of age. Additionally, it is the only treatment that typically requires just a single application, though if the condition persists and shows initial positive results, a follow-up treatment may be recommended.
Why it works?
The treatment protocol involves 4 infusions, each lasting a couple of hours, with 100mg of Neridronate in 250ml of saline administered daily or every other day.
Currently, Neridronate is the only medication proven to directly lead to remission of all CRPS symptoms. CRPS typically develops after trauma such as fractures, surgeries, broken bones, or sprained limbs. It often results from nerve damage in the affected area, frequently related to the use of a cast or other immobilizing devices. The nerves in the damaged area fail to recognize healing and continuously react to the injury through inflammation. Neridronate works by normalizing the bone cell cycle, which helps calm the inflammatory response and stabilize the condition. It is recommended for both CRPS type 1 and 2, as it also helps prevent or treat osteoporosis commonly associated with the disorder.
